All information about the first district in Vienna

The first district – the old town – is surrounded by the 5.2 km long ring road, which was built in the middle of the 19th century instead of the old city fortifications.

The Vienna Ring Road is lined with numerous beautiful buildings, whose architecture is also referred to as “Ringstraße style” due to its special characteristics. The most famous of them are the State Opera and the Burgtheater, as well as the Kunsthistorische- and Naturhistorische Museum with their extensive collections.

The University of Vienna – which incidentally is the oldest university in the German-speaking world – can be found on the Ringstraße, as well as the Parliament building and the town hall.

The heart of the Old Town beats around the Stephansplatz on the Kärntner Straße, the Graben and their side streets with their diverse mix of department stores, shopping malls, exquisite boutiques and old-established shops.

From the tower of the Gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city. In the north tower of the cathedral, you can admire the “Pummerin”, the largest bell in Austria. Popular attractions of the Inner City include the famous Hofburg Palace with the Sisi Museum, and the Albertina, which houses important works of modern and contemporary art.

Discover magnificent Old Town palaces and other architectural gems as you walk the streets and lanes of the Inner City.

Many of the traditional and elegant coffee houses are located here, but otherwise the gastronomy of the old town leaves nothing to be desired. In the evening, sophisticated and creatively inspired bars and restaurants attract. For nature lovers and recreational athletes, extensive green spaces and parks offer ideal opportunities.

Especially if you are interested in the rich art and cultural landscape of Vienna, you are in good hands in our Serviced Apartments in 1010 Vienna.

From here you can reach almost all attractions on foot or within a short time by public transport. All traffic routes of the city converge here, therefore, the inner city is also suitable as a starting point for trips to other city districts or trips to the surrounding area. Of course, traveling in Vienna is even more enjoyable than on public transport in Vienna on a trip – and with this type of transport you can see by far the most!
